Dulamans Vröudenton was a Salzburg ensemble for early music . It existed from 1982 to 2012 and specialized in music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance . With the re-performance of old children's songs on historical musical instruments , the ensemble also gave the youngest audience their first access to early music.

The name of the ensemble consists of the word Dulaman (Irish Gaelic: seaweed collector) and Vröudenton ( Middle High German : joy music).

History and cast

The ensemble was founded in spring 1982 by Peter Giesmann (= later Peter Rauter and today Peter I. Krafft ), Andreas Gutenthaler, Anna Zauner-Pagitsch , Alois Pagitsch and Thomas M. Schallaböck. Initially, the music group could also be classified in the folk music genre . Folk music - mainly Irish-Celtic, English and Provencal - as well as original compositions by Alois Pagitsch and Thomas M. Schallaböck made up the majority of the repertoire.

From 1984 the musicians set the main focus of their concert activities with the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. They received scientific support from the Salzburg literary scholar and medievalist Ulrich Müller . Thanks to the playful handling of early music, the use of 50 historical musical instruments and the amusing and instructive presentations, the ensemble was soon able to make a name for itself in the German-speaking world. In 1984 (“ Virgil Year ”) and 1987 (“ Wolf Dietrich Year ”) it acted as a “musical ambassador” for the State of Salzburg at the anniversary events of that time.

The ensemble, which has performed as a quartet since 1985 , most recently played in the following line-up:

  • Andreas Gutenthaler
  • Marie-Kathrin Melnitzky
  • Peter I. Krafft
  • Thomas M. Schallaböck (2010, 2011 and 2014 winner of minstrel competitions in Germany)

Concert tours also took Dulamans Vröudenton to other European countries and to South America: Belgium , Germany , France , Greece , Great Britain , Italy , Liechtenstein , Poland , Switzerland , Slovenia , Spain and Colombia .

After more than 30 years and more than 1000 appearances in 14 countries, the Dulamans Vröudenton ensemble said goodbye to its audience on October 30, 2012 with two concerts in the Salzburg Residenz. The ensemble Harmonia Variabilis , founded by Thomas M. Schallaböck in 2012, has taken on the musical legacy .

Instruments

Following the old tradition of musicians, each member of the ensemble played several of the more than 50 instruments:

Renaissance cord drum, Gothic hurdy-gurdy, Medieval Psalter, Renaissance Dudey
