Hubert is a male given name of Germanic origin and a family name . Female forms of the first name are Huberta and Hubertine .

Origin and meaning

The first part of the name, originally: hug- (see also: Hugo ), means something like : thinking spirit, mind, memory. Compare Dutch : heugen = memory; heuglijk = happy (which one likes to remember).

The second part of the name, originally: -berht, -brecht, (see also: Albert , Robert ) means something like : shiny (literally and figuratively). Compare English : bright = shiny.
