Keir Dullea
Keir Dullea [ kɪr duˈleɪ ] (born May 30, 1936 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American actor . He became internationally known for the role of astronaut Dave Bowman in Stanley Kubrick's film classic 2001: A Space Odyssey .
life and work
Keir Dullea grew from the age of three in the New York district of Greenwich Village , where his parents ran a bookstore. After various theater activities and supporting roles in television series, the role of a juvenile offender in the film ... the throw the first stone (1961) was his screen debut . Problem-laden young people were then embodied by him in the next few years. Particularly noteworthy is his portrayal of the mentally handicapped David Clemens in David and Lisa (1962), a role for which Dullea was honored with the Golden Globe Award as best young actor .
After participating in other film and TV productions, he was then cast in a role whose international fame has survived the decades: In Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) he played the astronaut David Bowman , who was the only survivor of a Space mission carried out against the on-board computer HAL 9000 and experienced incomprehensible things at the end of the film.
Most of the films in which he worked following this milestone in film history were of much less importance. Among other things, he was seen at the side of Senta Berger in the German production Das Ausschweifende Leben des Marquis de Sade (1969) and had a supporting role in the horror film Jessy - The Stairway to Death (1974). In 1984 he played the role of David Bowman again in 2010 - The Year We Make Contact (1984), the sequel to the classic 1968 film. In the new millennium, Dullea starred in Robert De Niro's thriller The Good Shepherd (2006 ) as well as in a film (2018) of Fahrenheit 451 on the side of Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon . Dullea was in the series The Path between 2016 and 2018 as Dr. See Steven Meyer .
In addition to his work in front of the camera, Keir Dullea remained connected to the theater in the later years of his career. In 1983 he founded the Theater Artists Workshop of Westport with his third wife, Susie Fuller.
From 1960 to 1968 he was married to the actress Margot Bennett . His 1969 marriage to Susan Lessans ended in divorce a year later. He was married to his third wife, Suzanne Fuller, from 1972 until her death in 1998. Dullea has been married to actress Mia Dillon for the fourth time since 1999 .
