from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EY Meyer (* 11. October 1946 as Peter Meyer in Liestal ) is a Swiss writer .

Life

From 1966 , Peter Meyer studied German , history and philosophy at the University of Bern . He broke off this course and completed an apprenticeship at the state teacher training college in Bern . He then worked as a primary school teacher in Ittigen . Since 1974 he has lived as a freelance writer under the name EY Meyer in Bern.

EY Meyer is a writer of novels , short stories , plays , radio plays and poems . His texts are strongly influenced by his philosophical studies and the rejection of the prevailing thought of progress, whose function in the "restoration" of the world, according to Meyer, should be assumed by art and creativity.

Again and again he expresses himself publicly on such socio-political issues. Increasing urbanization and the associated loss of habitat for people, animals and plants are causing him discomfort. He also finds it questionable or intolerable if residents are expected to be exposed to noise emissions for nights in the middle of Bern through illegal techno parties and the police claim that they are powerless against it.

EY Meyer has been a member of the Swiss Writers' Association (SSV) since 1973, today Authors in Switzerland (AdS). In 2011 he was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature by the Swiss-German PEN Center .
