East Burra ( old north . Barrey ) is a small Scottish island that belongs to the group of Shetland Islands . With 515 hectares it is the twelfth largest island in the Shetlands.

It is located in the southwest between the main island Mainland and the neighboring island of West Burra to the east . There is a bridge and road connection to both islands, so that the main town of the Shetlands, Lerwick , can now be reached easily. The depopulation of the island could be stopped by the bridge connections. In 2011 76 people lived there.

Although Lerwick has more and more residents working, fishing and agriculture still play a role.

The island is about 14 km long, up to 1.5 km wide and has a size of just over 5 km². It is slightly hilly and practically treeless.
