Eberhard Anheuser

Eberhard Anheuser (born September 27, 1806 in Kreuznach ; † May 2, 1880 in St. Louis , Missouri ) was an entrepreneur and brewery owner.

In 1842 two brothers from the 10th generation of the Kreuznach Anheusers emigrated to America . Eberhard Anheuser made a small fortune as a candle maker and soap boiler in St. Louis , Missouri , USA . This fortune (90,000  US dollars ) (according to today's value 2,849,747 US dollars) he invested in the small Bavarian Brewery founded in 1852 by Georg Schneider , which in 1858 operated under the name "Hammer und Urban". The brothers of the military doctor Adam Hammer brought the brewery up to date, but ran into financial difficulties again because sales left a lot to be desired. In 1860 he bought other promissory notes with his partner, William O'Dench, and took over the brewery entirely. In the style of modern investment companies, they reorganized the company and continued production under the name E. Anheuser & Company .

A year later his daughter Lilly married the German immigrant Adolphus Busch from Kastel and his daughter Anna Busch's brother Ulrich in a double wedding. Adolphus began working as a salesman in his father-in-law's brewery in 1864. 1865 merged the E. Anheuser & Company with John B. Busch Brewing Company in Washington , Missouri, and Adolphus Busch was equal shareholder of Eberhard Anheuser. The Anheuser company was renamed the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association in 1879 , and Adolphus became its president the following year. He held this position for 33 years. In 1919 the name was changed again to Anheuser-Busch , the current name.
