Eberhard von Gemmingen (1713–1757)

Eberhard Nikolaus Thadäus von Gemmingen (born February 27, 1713 in Catalonia, † June 14, 1757 in Bohemia) was a Prussian lieutenant colonel and from 1752 landlord in Rappenau .

Life

He was the son of the Austrian officer Eberhard von Gemmingen-Hornberg (1688–1767), who fought in the War of the Spanish Succession . He was brought up first with his parents, then in Heilbronn with his uncle, where he also attended school. At the age of 14 he joined the Aremberg infantry regiment as an ensign . In 1734 he was a Württemberg grenadier captain, in 1737 he belonged to the Württemberg troop contingent that changed to Prussian services. He was garrisoned in the Wesel Citadel , in Berlin and Magdeburg and fought in the Silesian Wars from 1740 onwards . Among other things, he took part in the battle of Kesselsdorf in 1745 , where he was wounded. In 1747 he moved to Bohemia as colonel sergeant and commander of a grenadier battalion - composed of the grenadier companies of regiments No. 44 (Jungken) and No. 41 (Neuwied). He was wounded in the battle of Lobositz , later fought near Prague and Kolin and was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In 1752 he inherited the Rappenau property of his distant cousin Karl Ludwig von Gemmingen (1700–1752). In 1757 he died after the battle of Kolin while retreating from Bohemia on the Ruhr and was buried in Bohemian Leipa .

From 1753 he was married to Johanna von Grävenitz (1731–1778) from Magdeburg.
