Eberhard von Varendorff , also Eberhard von Varendorf (* approx. 1530 in Milse , † October 18, 1568 in Bremen ) was a clerical dignitary of the dioceses of Bremen and Minden . He was provost of the Bremen St. Petri Cathedral , the Land of Hadeln , the monasteries Wildeshausen , Zeven and Levern and dean of the Herford and Enger monasteries .

Life

Eberhard von Varendorff was born around 1530 on Gut Milse near Bielefeld . He came from the Westphalian noble family of the Lords of Varendorff . His father was the knight Jobst I. von Varendorff, Burgmann zur Sparrenburg , Lehnsmann of the Jülich-Bergschen , later Jülich-Kleve-Bergschen , Dukes Wilhelm III. and Johann des Friedfertigen as well as advice of the Abbess of Herford , his mother was Beata von Korff . His brother was the Bremen cathedral provost Ludolf von Varendorff . In 1549 Eberhard von Varendorff enrolled at the University of Marburg and then became canon of Bremen and Hildesheim , later also of Minden and Wildeshausen , as well as ambassador to the archbishopric of Bremen . In 1567 he received the title of scholastic . He held the provost offices in Bremen , Hadeln , Zeven, Levern and Wildeshausen as well as the Dechantei in Herford and Enger . Eberhard von Varendorff died on October 18, 1568 and was originally buried in the central nave of Bremen Cathedral. His tomb, with the coat of arms of the Lords of Varendorff in the middle, is now in the west crypt of Bremen's St. Petri Cathedral .
