Eccremocarpus species are semi-shrubby climbing plants whose trunks , unlike many other members of the family, do not have an unusual phloem structure . The bark of the branches is deeply furrowed and finely haired.
The opposite arranged leaves are divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The pinnate leaf blades are divided into two or three first-order pinnate. The lateral leaflets consist of several second-order leaflets. The terminal leaflet is often transformed into a tendril that is split several times . There are no interpetiolar glands and pseudo- stipules .
Generative characteristics
The lateral, racemose inflorescences contain bracts and a few flowers.
The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The calyx is bell-shaped, membranous and not covered with glands. The tubular, membranous crown is red or orange to yellow and has a green tip. The five only short corolla lobes are not bent back and straight. The four fertile stamens are only slightly above the crown. The dust bags are hairless and consist of straight counters. The ovary is ovoid, with fine scales, and has occupied a constriction at the base. The ovules are in multiple rows in parietal placentation . The ovary stands on a ring-shaped flower base .
The woody capsule fruits are ovate, elliptical and flattened and covered with cork pores. The winged seeds are bare.
