Ecser (IPA: [ɛʧɛr] Slovak ECER ) is a Hungarian large village in the county Vecsés in Pest County .

Geographical location

Ecser is located southeast of Budapest near the Budapest Liszt Ferenc Airport . The neighboring places are Maglód , Vecsés and the XVII. District of Budapest .

history

The first documentary mention took place on December 15, 1315. The village already existed in 896 when the Hungarians tribe arrived in what is now Hungary. According to legend, the name comes from the Hungarian cser (oak), which Prince Árpád suggested after he was unable to answer his question about the name of this place. During the Ottoman rule (1526–1686) the population died out, which was mainly triggered by the occupation of Budapest. The inhabitants did not come back until 1699.

Eleven soldiers from Ecser fought for independence under Rákóczi from 1703 to 1711 .

At the beginning of the 17th century, the village owner Antal Grassalkovich settled Slovaks in Ecser.

Part of the population of Ecser belongs to the Slovak minority.
