Eddie Shu

Eddie Shu (* as Edward Shulman on August 18, 1918 in Brooklyn , New York , † July 4, 1986 in Tampa , Florida ) was an American jazz musician ( tenor and alto saxophone , also clarinet , trumpet and harmonica ) of swing .

Live and act

Eddie Shu first learned violin and guitar as a child, but later played the saxophone. He first worked with Tadd Dameron and George Shearing in 1948 , then with Johnny Bothwell , Buddy Rich and Les Elgart . He played in Lionel Hampton's band from 1949 to 1950 , with Charlie Barnet in 1950/51 and with Chubby Jackson in 1952 . Shu had his own formations in New York in 1953/54 and was a member of Gene Krupa's band from 1954 to 1958 . He then worked as a freelance musician in Cuba and Florida . In the 1960s he played (as Eddie Shuree) in Louis Armstrong's All Stars formation, and again in 1966 for Hampton. In 1973 he took part in Gene Krupa's last live recordings before his death. Shu was known as a multi-instrumentalist and also appeared as a singer. He last lived in Tampa.
