Edelhofkapelle
The Edelhofkapelle (also: Marienkapelle ) is the oldest and at the same time most important building in the Hanoverian district of Ricklingen . The location of the chapel built in the 14th century by the von Alten family and now a listed building is the Edelhof Ricklingen .
history
The Edelhofkapelle forms the core of the village "Rikelinge", first mentioned in a document between 1185 and 1206, while a Theodericus de Riclinge is documented as early as 1124. Around 1340, the von Alten family, as landowners and builders, built the Marienkapelle on the grounds of the Edelhof. During the air raids on Hanover in World War II , the chapel was partially destroyed and rebuilt from 1963 to 1966.
Until the independent Michaelis congregation was founded in 1877, the chapel was a branch church of the Church of St. Martin (Linden) .
Building description
The small chapel is a rectangular building made of broken limestone with corner blocks . A simple roof turret crowns the building above the steep hipped roof . The narrow windows on the side walls are closed with a rounded arch , while the likewise arched door on the southern eaves leads into a pointed arched niche . The colored glass windows, made by Charles Crodel , were donated by the von Alten family in 1965.
organ
The organ was built in 1962 by the organ building workshop Fa. Schmidt & Thiemann, Hanover in the ev.-luth. Maria Magdalenen Church built in Ricklingen. After its dedication in 2009, the instrument was moved to the side gallery of the Edelhof Chapel. The organ has seven registers , divided into a manual and a pedal . The wind chest is designed as a sliding chest that is divided in the manual, playing and stop actions are mechanical.
