Edgar Röhrig

Edgar Röhrig (born August 19, 1928 in Marktheidenfeld , † November 29, 2011 in Aschaffenburg ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman, monsignor .

Life

Roehrig attended the seminary in Würzburg and was on 19 August 1953 by Bishop Julius Döpfner for priests ordained. After his time as chaplain in Zeil am Main , Our Lady in Bautzen , St. Burkard (Würzburg) and Hendungen , he received his first pastor's position there in 1962. In 1963 he became the first pastor in St. Michael Schweinfurt and built the parish center there (kindergarten, church). He was a student chaplain at the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences . In 1974 he became a priest in Aschaffenburg.

From 1975 to 1995 he was dean of the dean's office in Aschaffenburg-Stadt, from 1975 to 1980 dean's office for liturgy and church music, and in 1997 dean's Caritas pastor. He was a clerical adviser to the Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs (BKU). In 1998 he received the honorary title "Monsignore" (Chaplain to His Holiness) from Pope John Paul II . The foundation of the ecumenical telephone and emergency pastoral care as well as the Working Group of Christian Churches (ACK) in Aschaffenburg can be traced back to his initiative.

The renovated collegiate basilica, as whose "faithful guardian" he was called, bears the signature of the art-loving pastor. On October 1st, 1998 he retired, but continued to help in pastoral care.

On March 16, 1985 he was a co-founder of the association “ Reconstruction Löwenapotheke eV - Aschaffenburger Altstadtfreunde ” and became its first chairman. After his departure he became its honorary chairman. The Aschaffenburger Krippenfreunde eV (Krippenbauverein) of which he was chairman for many years, he made possible work and exhibition opportunities in the chapel of the old city hospital in Aschaffenburg.

He finds his final resting place at the priestly graves in the Aschaffenburg old town cemetery under the cross of the cemetery of St. Agatha (Aschaffenburg) , which was abandoned in 1811 .
