Athletic career

After a successful tour of Belgium with the amateurs in 1950, Sorgeloos first switched to the independents in 1951 . In this franchise group he won the Omloop Het Volk race . A year later he became a professional driver and for many years was a close assistant to Rik van Looy , whom he followed in various teams. As a classic helper, he didn't have many chances of winning races himself.

Nevertheless, he won a number of Belgian circuit races in particular, but also had more important successes such as a stage win at the Tour de Suisse in 1955 and 1957 (in that year he also won the points classification ). In 1959 he won the Sassari – Cagliari race (as in 1964), in 1962 he won a stage near Paris – Nice and also in 1962 the 2nd stage of the Tour de France . In 1965 he was able to win another stage in the tour. He drove the tour a total of six times, his best result being 61st place in 1964 . He  took part in the Giro d'Italia seven times, in 1956 he was 14th. The Vuelta a España also saw him start five times, in 1963 he was 15th in the overall standings. He has contested all the monuments of cycling at least once in his career . In 1959 he had his best result with 6th place in the Tour of Flanders .
