Edmund Behringer

Edmund Behringer (born May 22, 1828 in Babenhausen ; † November 13, 1900 in Würzburg ) was a German teacher and writer .

Life

Born as the son of a Fugger ruling judge, Behringer studied law and later philosophy and classical philology in Munich after attending the St. Stephan high school in Augsburg and the high school in Kempten . During his studies in 1847 he became a member of the fraternity and later fraternity of Algovia Munich . After his state examination for teaching in 1851, he continued to study in Bonn , where he was encouraged to study German and poetic work primarily by Karl Simrock .

From 1852 to 1853 he worked as an assistant at the grammar school in Kempten, then studied in Würzburg and was at the universities in Bamberg and Eichstätt . In 1854 he became an assistant at a high school in Würzburg, in 1855 a teacher in Bamberg and in 1856 in Würzburg. There he became a high school professor in 1856 . In 1866 he worked in Eichstätt and in 1871 became rector of the royal high school in Aschaffenburg . He rejected appointments to larger schools, including the Ludwigsgymnasium in Munich. In 1897/98 he retired.

He was on the board of directors of the St. Johannis branch in Aschaffenburg (Spessart educational institutions). For his translations of the inscriptions and poems of Pope Leo XIII. he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Saint Gregorius . He became an honorary citizen of the communities of Rothenbuch and Weibersbrunn .
