Edmund Moiret

Edmund Moiret , Hungarian Ödön Moiret (born March 2, 1883 in Budapest , † December 12, 1966 in Vienna ) was a Hungarian sculptor and visual artist who lived and worked in Austria since 1920 .

Life

Moiret studied in Budapest with Albert Schickedanz , at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Edmund Hellmer (1902) and Hans Bitterlich, and at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles in Brussels with Herman Richir. In 1910 he received the Harkanyi Prize and in 1911 the Franz Josefs Anniversary Prize of the City of Budapest. In 1911 he became professor of drawing at the University of Budapest , and in 1915 he worked at the local trade drawing school . In 1920 he moved to Vienna, where he stayed until his death. Here he became a member of the Künstlerhaus in 1941 , where he was awarded the Golden Medal in 1948. Moiret was married to Cornelia Chioreau and was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery after his death .

Moiret created monuments, sculptures , reliefs , medals and plaques , as well as drawings, and took part in numerous exhibitions. Stylistically, he was associated with a classicism striving for harmony . An often mystical religiosity speaks from his works.
