Karl Eduard von Bülow

Karl Eduard von Bülow (born November 17, 1803 at Gut Berg in front of Eilenburg , † September 16, 1853 at Oetlishausen Castle ( Canton Thurgau )) was a German novelist. He came from the Mecklenburg primitive noble family von Bülow . His father was the royal Saxon major Ernst von Bülow . His son is the musician Hans von Bülow .

Life

Karl Eduard von Bülow was born on the Berg estate at the gates of Eilenburg. He was baptized on November 27th of the same year by Pastor Franz Gotthard Abt, father of the song composer Franz Abt in the parish church of St. Mary .

In 1805 the family moved to Dresden . Bülow studied ancient languages in Leipzig . In 1828 he met the romantic writer Ludwig Tieck in Dresden , with whom he had a lifelong friendship. In the same year Bülow married Franziska Elisabeth Stoll von Berneck (1800–1888). The marriage had two daughters and one son. Isidore (1833-1903) later married Viktor von Bojanowski (1831-1892), who was two years older, while her sister Oda (* November 10, 1834; † 1876) was considered mentally ill and died relatively early. The only son, Hans von Bülow (1830-1894), became a world-famous pianist and conductor.

As the editor of Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen , Novalis , Heinrich von Kleist and others, Bülow contributed significantly to the early history of German studies . In 1846 Bülow moved with his family to the royal seat of Stuttgart and divorced his wife in 1849. In the same year Bülow married Countess Luise Pauline Bülow von Dennewitz (born October 25, 1813 in Berlin ; † May 27, 1903 in Homburg vor der Höhe ), a former lady-in-waiting of the Princess of Prussia and daughter of General Friedrich Wilhelm Bülow von Dennewitz . This marriage has two sons:

  • Dietrich Wilhelm (* August 4, 1850; † May 4, 1929), Privy Councilor ∞ Elisabeth von Lade (* January 12, 1855; † April 16, 1929)
  • Heinrich (* 1852 - † November 18, 1870) died near Torcay

In 1850 Bülow bought Oetlishausen Castle in the Swiss canton of Thurgau , where he died in 1853. Karl Eduard von Bülow was a committed supporter of the March Revolution in 1848 .

Von-Bülow-Strasse is named after him in his hometown of Eilenburg.
