Edwald Abramowitsch Sawadski

Edwald Abramowitsch Sawadski ( Russian Эдвальд Абрамович Завадский ; born June 2, 1927 in Millerowo ; † March 22, 2005 in Donetsk ) was a Russian solid-state physicist .

Life

Zavadsky studied at the Orsk Pedagogical Institute with a degree in 1955. He then worked at the Metal Physics Institute of the Urals Science Center of the USSR Academy of Sciences (AN-USSR) . In 1966 he moved to the Donetsk Physics and Technology Institute (DonFTI) of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (AN-USSR) (later Donetsk A.-A.-Galkin -Physik-und-Technik-Institut).

Sawadski's scientific work was devoted to problems of solid state physics . In particular, he investigated the effect of strong magnetic fields and high pressures on phase changes in magnetic materials . With this he founded the school of physics of phase changes under extreme conditions. He found that a magnetic field could irreversibly induce new properties that were "hidden" in the range of negative pressures. He discovered metastable multiphase states in ferroelectrics . He investigated special magnetic orders and phase transitions in magnetic materials with several order parameters and phase transitions in crystals with lattice defects .

Honors, memberships

  • Kirill D. Sinelnikow Prize of the AN-USSR (1975 together with AA Galkin ) for the induction of a new material state through a strong magnetic field
  • In 1978 he became a member of the AN-USSR
