history

The name Eichen is based on an old settlement name recorded in the original cadastre north of the historic road from Hülsen to Torringen (= today's Kempener Strasse). The earlier settlement of Eichen is first documented in 1243 with a high medieval court as de Unereichen . By the 19th century, the farm developed into a small hamlet , which was supposedly surrounded by five oaks, which gave it its name.
