Eiken Sato

Eiken Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 英賢 , Satō Eiken ; born January 8, 1986 in Ogawa , Nagano Prefecture ) is a Japanese show jumper who lives in Belgium .

Career

He grew up with his siblings in the mountain village of Ogawa in the Buddhist temple complex Myōshō-ji ( 明松 寺 ). His father Shōdō ( 佐藤 正道 ) is abbot ( jūshoku ) of the temple and was nominated in 1980 as a member of the Japanese equestrian team for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, but he could not take part because of the Olympic boycott at the time. Next to the temple is a riding facility, where his father Shōdō and his brother Kenki , his sister Tae ( 佐藤 泰 ) train on horses.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , he started with Cayak for Japan.

In December 2009 he became known in one fell swoop for his victory in the sixth stage of the FEI World Cup in Mechelen .

Eiken Satō worked for Axel Verlooy for five years before moving to Marcus Ehning's stable at the end of January 2010 . Only four weeks later he returned to the Verlooy stable.

Satō is trained by Harrie Smolders .
