Eilsdorf is part of the Huy community in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The place is located in the northern Harz foreland about 12 km north of Halberstadt and 50 km west of Magdeburg in a wide, gently sloping depression to the east without any noticeable natural elevations, surrounded by high-quality and productive arable land in some cases. The Wockenstedt residential area once belonged to the municipality of Eilsdorf and is located about 1 km west of the village.

On the southern outskirts is the Blockshorenberg , an artificially raised hill, probably a pagan court. There are two old trees on this mountain: a linden and an oak. You can find them stylized in the coat of arms of Eilsdorf.

history

The prehistoric settlement of the Eilsdorf area is documented by house urns and face urns, which were found during field work in 1893 south-east of the village on the dirt road to Eilenstedt and were excavated by the end of 1894. These urns date from around 800 to 500 BC. Chr.

In a founding letter of the Huysburg Monastery from 1084 the name "Achadelsdorp" is mentioned. The year is the official first mention of Eilsdorf. In 1984, the 900th anniversary was celebrated with a large parade. However, the name "Eilikestorp" can be found in connection with the count family Otto and Adelinde von Eilikestorp 44 years earlier, namely in 1040. Another document from the brothers Friedrich and Linder reads about "Eilwardestorp".

Church in Eilsdorf

Until 1225 the village was under the rule of Count von Regenstein and was then sold to the Halberstadt church. After that the ownership changed frequently. In 1367 the predatory war against the Bishop of Hildesheim Gerhard von Berg took place in the area around Eilsdorf . In 1400 there was a chapel dedicated to St. Catherine next to the existing church in the village. It was devastated between 1564 and 1569. In 1499, Michaelstein Monastery owned the largest property in the area. At that time there were six farms, a meadow and four houses and a tavern in the village . The Peasants' War reached Eilsdorf in 1525 and did not spare it.

The first cases of plague occurred in 1565 ; last we read of infections in 1636. Around 1600 a quarry was first mentioned , which was located just 1 km north of the village. Stone was mined here over many centuries and processed into stone slabs. The Hofkirche in Dresden is laid out with stone slabs from the Eilsdorf quarry, among other things. The rectory was built in 1684. The pigeon tower built on this property in 1771 was demolished in 1960. In 1785 the community inaugurated the new cemetery to the south of the church "Sant Viti". At that time Eilsdorf had 312 inhabitants. In 1852, the construction of the city road to Halberstadt began with limestone. In 1854 the road was ready. In 1889 there was a great flood; the water was up to four feet in the village. In 1900 Eilsdorf had 695 inhabitants, numerous handicrafts and businesses, including two post mills .

On April 1, 2002, the municipality of Eilsdorf formed the new municipality of Huy together with the ten other municipalities of the dissolved Huy administrative community .

school

Since 1540 there was a school in Eilsdorf. In 1886 a new school building was built due to the increased number of students, which was closed in 1972. Since then, the students have been traveling to the neighboring town of Schlanstedt . The school was in the middle of the village.
