Gerhard vom Berge, Bishop of Verden and Hildesheim

Gerhard vom Berge (* in the 14th century ; † November 15, 1398 ) came from the house of the Lords of the Mountains , who had their seat near Minden and who exercised the bailiff's rights of the diocese of Minden until 1397 . He was cathedral cantor, then cathedral dean in Minden, later bishop of Verden (1363–1365) and bishop of Hildesheim (1365–15 November 1398).

In 1367, after the battle of Dinklar against the Brunswick Duke Magnus I (1345–1373), Bishop Gerhard built the mighty residential tower-like palace in the south of the Poppenburg castle complex .

Bishop Gerhard was later involved in the so-called Lüneburg War of Succession (1371-1388). So the Guelphs had to forego Koldingen Castle in 1380 in favor of Bishop Gerhard. Under the leadership of the bishop, the castle on the left of the Leine became the seat of the newly created Hildesheim office of Koldingen ; Kirchrode became a bailiwick. The Vogtei Kirchrode included the garden communities in front of the Aegidientor of the city of Hanover , Kirchrode, Misburg and Wülferode .
