Brun II. (Also Bruno ) († August 21, 1049 ) was Bishop of Verden from 1034 to 1049 .

Life

It came from the house of the Counts of Walbeck . His parents were Count Siegfried von Walbeck and Kunigunde von Stade. He was the brother of the historian and bishop Thietmar von Merseburg and the bishop Siegfried von Munster . Brother Heinrich followed his father, and brother Friedrich held the burgraviate in Magdeburg . The sister Oda married Count Goswin von Falkenburg.

Brun received his education in the Corvey monastery . He entered this monastery around 996. There he got to know the Saxon history of the chronicler Widukind von Corvey and probably made it available to his brother Thietmar. He later became abbot in Nienburg and succeeded his brother Siegfried in Berge . He presided over the local monastery from 1025 to 1034.

During his time as bishop the diocese suffered from invasions of the Wends . In addition, the lower church of the Michaeliskloster in Lüneburg was consecrated. There was also a dispute with the Archbishop of Bremen, Adalbrand of Bremen .
