Tanko from Verden

Tanko (* in Ireland; † 808 in Verden ) was a bishop of Verden and a martyr of the Catholic Church. Tanko was first abbot in Amorbach and Neustadt am Main . He sent monks from his Benedictine monasteries to the area around Verden on the Aller as messengers of faith. In 788 he was elected second bishop of Verden. His feast day as a martyr of the Catholic Church is December 16.
