action

Bridget is the 10 year old orphaned daughter of a wealthy couple. Her now deceased grandmother left her the message that either Nick Cartland or the failed photographer Charley Dunbar is her grandfather. Bridget should now decide who should be her guardian. The offer is particularly attractive for Nick and Charley because the guardian is to receive a quarter of a million US dollars as annual income . So now Nick and Charley are trying to convince their granddaughter who the better grandfather is for them.

background

Bryan Forbes initially offered the role of Charley Dunbar to William Holden , who rejected the project because the fee was too low. In his book, published in 1993, Forbes wrote that if Holden had participated in the film, he might have lived longer.

Forbes wrote the screenplay for the film based on a template by author Gwen Davis . The film was shot mainly in southern France in the Alpes-Maritimes department , so u. a. in Antibes . The studio recordings took place in the Studios de la Victorine in Nice .

David Niven impersonated his penultimate film role in the film, in 1983, the year of its release, he succumbed to his ALS disease.
