A dead person hung on a bell rope (original title: La cripta e l'incubo ) is an Italian-Spanish vampire film from 1964 by Camillo Mastrocinque , partly in black and white and partly in color. Tonino Valerii and Ernesto Gastaldi wrote the script . It is very loosely based on the novella " Carmilla " by the Irish writer Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu . Christopher Lee , Adriana Ambesi and Ursula Davis can be seen in the leading roles . The work had its world premiere on May 27, 1964 in Italy. It had its cinema premiere in the Federal Republic of Germany three years later, on March 3, 1967.
action
The relatives of those at Karnstein have a hard time. An evil curse weighs on the noble family after an ancestor in the dark ages sentenced a witch to death at the stake . Now the lord's daughter is tormented by dreams of fear; a niece dies under mysterious circumstances; a hunchbacked beggar visits the castle from time to time and utters insane prophecies; the decision-maker holds black masses in the crypt , and the lord of the castle himself does not seem to be entirely normal. Only a young scholar is able to put an end to the ghost by exposing a young lady who is staying on the property as a vampire and rendering it harmless with a stake in the heart.
criticism
The lexicon of international films succinctly notes that the film is a "scary film of little entertainment value". The Protestant film observer comes to a similar assessment: “A confused, told horror story of inferior quality. Superfluous for everyone. "
