A beautiful gift is a 90-minute feature film from the German television series Hubert und Staller from 2018. The film is the farewell film for Helmfried von Lüttichau, who is leaving the series as Johannes Staller in one of the leading roles after seven years.

Shortly before Christmas, Hubert and Staller are supposed to arrest the 85-year-old Hannelore Eissner because she has not paid any radio license fees for a year. So that there is no trouble for the pensioner, the district has raised money for her. When Hubert and Staller want to bring her the money, they find Hannelore Eissner dead in their house. It turns out that the pensioner died a year ago.
Since Dr. Fuchs initially assumes a natural death, Staller goes to Rome to do some pre-Christmas shopping. But Staller is hardly gone, says Dr. Fuchs found that Hannelore Eissner has a broken neck. In addition, 400,000 euros are missing, which the pensioner withdrew from her account shortly before her death.
When Girwidz wants to pick up his mother-in-law from the train station, a Santa Claus drives past Girwidz's car on a sledge and ends up in a pile of wood. After Girwidz brought him to the hospital, it turns out that it is Georg Obermeier, who has been missing for a year. When Hubert arrives at the hospital with Obermeier's wife Katharina, he has disappeared. But that's not the only surprise, because when Hubert comes home, 16-year-old Anna stands in front of his door and introduces herself as his daughter. After making friends with the idea of having a daughter, he discovers that she is a cheat and that she used a modified form of the grandchildren's trick to gain access to his apartment. Strangely enough, she didn't steal anything from him.
After the DNA samples showed that Georg Obermeier broke into Hannelore Eissner's a year ago and probably stole the money from her, this explains to the officials his disappearance at the time, but not why Obermeier reappears a year later and disappears again shortly afterwards . When he is now discovered frozen in the brook, his regulars' table friends, bank advisor Franz Hübner, butcher Michael Schartl and postman Joseph Brenner, are the target of the investigation. Since Girwidz district manager is the only one whom these three have never seen, Girwidz should set a trap for them. This succeeds and Franz Huebner can be convicted as a double murderer. He had gone to see the old lady a year ago to steal the money he had learned about through his work at the bank. When Hannelore Eissner found out, there was an argument and she fell down the stairs. To camouflage his act, he sent his regulars' table friend Obermeier to a burglary there, who then went into hiding. When, a year later, he heard from the press about the large amount of money that had been missing since his break-in, he knew that Franz Huebner had cheated on him. So that his deed would not be uncovered, Huebner quickly silenced Obermeier by strangling him and then throwing him into the brook.
Hubert and his colleague Lena want to arrest Hübner and find him tied up in his apartment. They inform Girwidz that they have the murderer, but that his regulars' table friend Brenner is on the run with the money. As luck would have it, Brenner ran into the police chief, but when he tried to stop the fugitive, he was run over by a snow plow. Girwidz collects the money and wants to bring it to the station. On the way there, he is stopped by a Rosenheim police patrol and arrested because of his breath alcohol. When the officers call the station to have his colleagues pick up Girwidz's car, they only reach Staller, who has just returned from his trip to Rome. He immediately takes a taxi to help his boss. But the Rosenheim residents take Girwidz with them to the police station and Staller drives back in Girwidz's car. Staller receives a call from Rome. He fell in love on his journey and does not hesitate any longer to follow his new luck. He leaves Wolfratshausen and says goodbye to his colleague Hubert on the road.
