The Eiskogel counts with a height of 2321 m above sea level. A. to the most famous peaks in the Tennengebirge in the northern Limestone Alps in the Salzburg region . On its south and west sides, the mountain breaks off with rock faces up to 1,000 meters high. To the north and east, however, it falls relatively flat over grass and craggy slopes to the extensive plateau of the Tennengebirge.

The double summit of the Eiskogel lies on the southern edge of the Tennengebirge near Werfenweng and is not far from the border from Tennengau to Pongau . The great Eiskogel is often a destination for mountaineers. At the foot of the summit is the Eiskogel cave , further to the east the neighboring Tauernkogel rises up .
Routes
Like most other mountains in the Tennengebirge, the Eiskogel is one of the easy-to-climb peaks that can be reached without climbing. It should also be mentioned that the normal route is a very popular ski tour in winter and is the prelude to a ski crossing of the Tennengebirge. The only important route is the way from the south:
- From Wengerau , walking time: 4 hours, difference in altitude: 1350 meters
It begins in Wengerau near Werfenweng and first leads to the Dr.-Heinrich-Hackel-Hütte . It continues over pine slopes in a scree cirque between Napf and Tauernkogel, through which one climbs up to the Stiegl. This place is rocky and quite exposed (difficulty level I according to UIAA ), but secured. Then to the Tauernscharte and easily over grass slopes to the Eiskogel.
