description

Vegetative characteristics

Elatostema malipoense grows as a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 30 to 50 centimeters. The upright and unbranched stem is sparsely covered with short downy hairs at the shoot nodes.

The opposite leaves are divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The short petiole is 0.1 to 0.6 inches long. The simple, more or less paper-like leaf blade, densely covered with short curry hairs on both sides, has a length of 11 to 15 centimeters and a width of 3 to 3.5 centimeters obliquely oblong to obovate-oblong. The base of the spreader tapers at an angle, the tip of the spreader is sharply pointed and the edge of the spreader is serrated. Both the upper side and the underside of the leaves are densely covered with conspicuous 0.1 to 0.2 millimeter long, rod-shaped cystolites . Five to seven pairs of side veins go from the central leaf vein. The stipules are awl-shaped to narrow triangular with a length of 0.1 to 0.2 millimeters.

Generative characteristics

The female flower heads stand individually in the leaf axils on an approximately 0.8 cm long and hairy inflorescence stem. The approximately square and hairy, four-fold or irregular four- to six-fold lobed flower base is 1 to 1.5 centimeters long and just as wide. The approximately 75 bracts have a length of 0.5 to 0.6 millimeters and a width of 0.5 to 0.7 millimeters triangular to flattened triangular and have a tapered and 0.7 to 1 millimeter long extension at the tip . The underside of the bracts is covered with short hairs. The membrane-like, whitish and semi-transparent bracts are 0.5 to 1 millimeter in length, obovate to lanceolate with long ciliate upper end. The female flower buds are almost sessile and have no petals . The pistil is around 0.8 millimeters long and the green ovary is around 3.5 millimeters long. The brush-shaped scar is about 4.5 millimeters long. So far nothing is known about the male flowers.

Warty achenes are formed as fruits , which are egg-shaped with a length of 0.6 to 0.7 millimeters and a thickness of around 0.4 millimeters.

Occurrence

The natural range of Elatostema malipoense is in southern China. As far as is known, there is only one site of around 200 plant specimens near Yunling Village in Xiajinchang Town in Malipo County, Yunnan Province .

Elatostema malipoense grows scattered in the undergrowth of forests on moist clay soils in shady locations or along ravines. Elatostema malipoense thrives at altitudes of around 1600 meters. Pilea insolens and various types of figs ( Ficus ) occur as socialized species .

Taxonomy

It was first described as Elatostema malipoense in 2011 by Wen-Tsai Wang and Zeng-Yuan Wu in PhytoKeys , number 7, page 60. The specific epithet malipoense refers to the occurrence of this species in the Malipo district .

According to the first description belongs Elatostema pleiophlebium the section Elatostema within the genus Elatostema on. Elatostema pleiophlebium resembles Elatostema pseudobrachyodontum in terms of its leaf nerve and the number of bracts .
