The Elbe 1 is a former coastal patrol boat of the Hamburg water police and is now a museum and traditional ship with its home port in Hamburg .

history

The ship was built as Wasserschutzpolizei 1 under construction number 439 at the Ernst Menzer shipyard in Hamburg-Bergedorf for the Hamburg waterway police and commissioned on December 9, 1965. It was one of several coastal patrol boats for the water police in the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg and Bremen , which differed only slightly.

The ship was first with nine men, later with four man crew on patrol in the port of Hamburg and the Lower Elbe to St. Margaret , sometimes to the territorial boundary in the North Sea used. For this, the ship was subordinate to the water police stations Waltershof and Cuxhaven.

In 1992 the water police 1 was renamed to water police 3 , because the number "1" was taken over by the new building of Mayor Brauer . The ship was decommissioned in October 1996 and taken over by the Museum of Labor and the Association for Former WS Barges in Hamburg in the summer of 1997 . The association overhauled the ship and put it back on the road in the summer of 2002 as a museum ship with approval as a traditional ship. It is approved for coastal travel and can carry a maximum of 40 passengers.

Technical specifications

The ship is powered by two MWM - diesel driven. It initially reached a speed of 22  knots . Later, the power of the engines was reduced to 343  kW each . The ship now reaches a top speed of 16 knots. There is also an auxiliary diesel on board. The range of the ship is 700 nautical miles .

The ship is equipped with a rubber dinghy, which is carried in the stern area. There is a hydraulic crane on both sides of the ship with which the dinghy can be lowered into the water and lifted back on board.
