Elisabeth Marie von Münsterberg-Oels

Elisabeth Marie von Oels (born May 11, 1625 in Oels ; † March 17, 1686 there ) was Duchess of Oels . She came from the Münsterberg branch of the Bohemian noble family Podiebrad .

Life

Elisabeth Marie was the only child of Duke Karl Friedrich von Münsterberg-Oels (1593–1647) from his first marriage to Anna Sophia (1598–1641), daughter of Duke Friedrich Wilhelm I of Saxe-Weimar . Since her father had no male offspring, he tried to get Elisabeth Marie to follow him as the reigning Duchess of Oels. As early as 1638 he had declared the duchy to be a "fief of women".

On May 1, 1647, Elisabeth Marie married Duke Silvius Nimrod von Württemberg-Juliusburg in Oels . Her father died on May 31 of this year as the last of his gender in the male line. Since the Duchy of Oels was a fiefdom of the crown of Bohemia , which was to be withdrawn as a settled fief when the last duke died , Emperor Ferdinand III raised. in his capacity as King of Bohemia objected to the transfer to Elisabeth Maria. Finally, in 1648, with a settlement, the Moravian rule of Jaispitz was ceded to the emperor and the duke couple and their descendants were given the duchy of Oels again, whereby the ducal sovereign rights were reduced. The Moravian domination of Sternberg remained in family ownership.

In 1652 the duke couple donated the Order of the Skull . After the death of her husband, Elisabeth Marie, together with Duke Christian von Brieg and his half-brother Baron August von Liegnitz (1627–1679), became regent of Oels and the guardian of their four underage sons. The older sons divided the land after they came of age in 1672 and Elisabeth Marie also resigned from the guardianship of her youngest son the following year.
