Elisabeth Oehler-Heimerdinger ; Pseudonym for Elisabeth Oehler ; (* January 13, 1884 in Cannstatt as Elisabeth Heimerdinger ; † March 30, 1955 in Erdmannhausen ) was a German missionary and writer .

Life

Elisabeth Oehler-Heimerdinger came from a pietistic merchant family . She received her education at a secondary school for girls and in a boarding school for girls in Neuchâtel . She then lived in her parents' household. In 1908 the missionary Wilhelm Oehler , who worked in China , asked for her hand. Elisabeth Oehler-Heimerdinger followed him to China in 1909, where she worked with her husband in missionary work. She worked as a teacher and especially cultivated contact with Chinese women, whose problems she became familiar with in this way. After the Oehler family returned to Germany in 1920 , Elisabeth Oehler-Heimerdinger devoted herself to raising her four children and supported her husband in his academic work at the universities of Tübingen and Basel as well as in community work.

Elisabeth Oehler-Heimerdinger wrote a large number of narrative works, most of which can be assigned to missionary literature, and in which she often processed the experiences made in China . In addition, he wrote poems , memoirs , biographies and translations of Chinese poetry .
