Elisabeth Schweeger

Elisabeth Schweeger (* 1954 in Vienna ) is an Austrian literary scholar , cultural manager and artistic director .

Life

She studied Comparative Literature, Romance Studies, German Studies and Philosophy in Innsbruck , Vienna and at the Sorbonne in Paris . First she worked as a journalist for Falter in Vienna and co-editor of the architecture magazine Umriss . She also worked as a lecturer at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , where she was also the head of the exhibition department. From 1993 she was artistic director of the Marstall / Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel in Munichwith an interdisciplinary program and later also chief dramaturge at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel .

In 1999 she received the Theater Prize of the City of Munich . From 2001 to 2009 Schweeger was the artistic director of the Frankfurt Schauspielhaus . As a curator, she was responsible for numerous exhibitions, including the Ars Electronica in Linz and the Documenta in Kassel. In 2001 she was commissioner for the Venice Biennale / Austrian pavilion. Since 2009 she has been the artistic director of the KunstFestSpiele, Hanover. With her penultimate season "Relationships" she moved to the Academy for Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg as its director (since 2014) . The KunstFestSpiele she set up was presented in 2015 under the title “Against the Grain”.
