Tropa de Elite

Elite Squad - In the Swamp of Corruption (Original title: Tropa de Elite 2 ) is a Brazilian film that was released in 2010. José Padilha acted as director and producer. The main actor was Wagner Moura in the role of Coronel Nascimento. The plot follows on from the previous film Tropa de Elite from 2007. The role of the narrator is assigned to the protagonist Coronel Nascimento, who represents a form of unreliable narration . No film has been more economically successful in Brazil. The film became Brazil's most-watched national film in December 2010, breaking a 34-year record - only the film Titanic was seen more often in Brazil.

action

A prison uprising, which Coronel Nascimento was responsible for, bloodily suppressed, brought him into public criticism. For political reasons, however, the misconduct can only be responded to by being promoted. Nascimento is confronted in the media by the political activist Diego Fraga. Instead of Nascimentos, Capitão André Matias is called to account. While Nascimiento can continue to expand the BOPE in his new administrative activity , he fails as the father of his young son. His wife has now separated from him permanently and is in a relationship with Fraga. Contrary to Nascimento's original intentions, he does not succeed in curbing the system of corrupt police by restricting drug trafficking. Rather, the militiamen are expanding their business activities in the slums of Rio de Janeiro to other areas. Nascimento exposes a network of relationships between corrupt police officers, drug dealers and politicians. When Matias is killed in an ambush and Nascimento's son Rafael is also in danger of death from a gunshot wound, Nascimento decides to disclose to the media his findings about the involvement of leading politicians in organized crime.

reception

Ekkehard Knörer wrote in the taz on February 11, 2011: “He does not get his tension primarily from action sequences - although they are certainly present - but from the consequent unfolding of a complicated situation that does not shrink from complexity. Partial enlightenment in the best sense of the word, which ultimately focuses on the center of power as the end point of corruption. "

background
