Elmar Hofer (born March 23, 1985 in Sterzing ) is an Italian ski racer . The South Tyrolean from Mareit in the Ridnaun Valley joined the Italian national team for the European Cup team in 2005 .

Career

First international experience 2003/2004

The Ridnauntaler contested his first international race, an FIS race , on December 11, 2000 in Ratschings and finished 70th in the giant slalom. On 20 February 2004 won Hofer his first FIS race in Reinwald in Sarntal in the downhill . In this 2003/2004 season he was among the top ten in the downhill in five FIS races and was on the podium twice .

Junior World Championship 2004/2005

In the following season 2004/2005 he made it back to the top ten in five FIS races, climbed onto the podium twice and won the downhill once. A first career highlight he achieved with two top 30 placements in the 24th Junior World Championship in Bardonecchia , where he was 17th in the Downhill on February 23, 2005 and two days later in the Super G in eleventh place just past the top ten. In the same season he also competed at the Italian Championships, where he was 19th in both slalom and Super G.

First European Cup successes since 2005

In winter 2005/2006 the Mareiter met for the first time in the European Cup and reached on the Sella Nevea in the Julian Alps on 19 and 20 January 2006, two top-30 results: 30 in the downhill and 14th in super-G . The next winter 2006/2007 brought the South Tyrolean in the European Cup a 16th place in the Super G in Tignes in the French Savoy on February 1, 2007 and a 25th place in the Super Combined in Reinswald in the South Tyrolean Sarntal on February 9, 2007. In In the overall ranking of the European Cup, Hofer came in 31st place in the Super G and 37th in the Super Combined. Italian champion 2008

The 2007/2008 season brought the ski racer six top 30 placements in the European Cup. World Cup debut and best European Cup 2009

In the winter of 2008/2009 Elmar Hofer competed in the World Cup for the first and only time, reaching 38th place twice in the downhill runs from Val Gardena on December 20, 2008 and in Bormio on December 28, 2008, but did not score any World Cup points. This season he made it into the top ten in the Super G twice in the European Cup. In the overall standings, he came 8th in the Super G and achieved his best overall European Cup result with 57th overall place.

End of career

In the 2009/2010 season, the man from Mareit only came 14th in the top 30 in the Sarntaler Reinswald in the downhill section of the European Cup. He also only won one FIS race. In his last season 2010/2011, the South Tyrolean competed in the European Cup, but could not place in any of the top 30 races. He won his last FIS race on February 2, 2011 in Caspoggio in the Super G. He contested his last two FIS races on April 20 and 21, 2011 in his home town of Ratschings, where he twice climbed the podium in the giant slalom. Hofer has not been active since then.
