Elmar Ledergerber (born April 4, 1944 in Engelberg ; resident in Andwil SG and Zurich ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). From 2002 to 2009 he was mayor of Zurich.

Education

Ledergerber studied from 1965 at the University of Freiburg , where he graduated in 1968 with a licentiate in history ( lic.phil I ). From 1968 to 1971 he studied foreign trade and economics at the HSG . In 1979 he was awarded a Dr. oec. HSG is doing his doctorate .

politics

Ledergerber was a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council from 1979 to 1987 and a member of the National Council from 1987 to 1998 . From the end of 1995 to the beginning of 1998 he was a member of the National Council's Commissions for Transport and Telecommunications (KVF-NR) and Economics and Taxes (WAK-NR). In 1998 he was elected to the Zurich City Council as head of the building construction department . In 2002 he was elected mayor to succeed Josef Estermann and was confirmed in this office in 2006. From 2000, Ledergerber was a delegate of the city council on the board of directors of Zurich Airport . He left the board of directors in 2011. On October 22, 2008, he announced his resignation as mayor in spring 2009 for family reasons.

In 2007 Ledergerber was made a Knight of the French Legion of Honor . From 2009 to 2015 he was President of Zurich Tourism . On May 17, 2010, in his column on Radio Suisse Romande , he spoke out in favor of a boycott of Israel and against its admission to the OECD .

Private

Elmar Ledergerber has lived in Wiedikon since 1985 . He has a daughter and two sons.
