Elmar Rösch (born March 15, 1925 in Duisburg ; † March 12, 2015 in Moers ) was a German football coach who was the coach of Meidericher SV in the Oberliga West from 1959 to 1961 .

Career as a coach

Rösch was a full-time teacher and was also involved in the hockey department of Meidericher SV from his native Duisburg. He also had a diploma as a football coach. On October 7, 1959, the football department of the MSV separated from the first team coach Helmut Kronsbein , as his relationship with both the board and the players had deteriorated before. As a result, the then 34-year-old Rösch was ordered as a quick replacement in the football department and took over the post of head coach in the Oberliga West, which represented the top division in the then regionally limited league system. On October 18 of this year he sat on the bench for the first time against Borussia Mönchengladbach and suffered a 1: 2 defeat. Meiderich was at the bottom of the table at the time and Rösch had to secure relegation with a team that largely consisted only of locally rooted players such as Günter Preuss , Kurt Neumann , Kurt and Ludwig Nolden or Heinz Bohnes . In addition, key players had left the club in recent years and young players therefore played a relatively strong role. During the winter break, the MSV therefore occupied a relegation place, but were able to save themselves through a good series in the second half of the season and in the end still occupy eighth place in the table. However, apart from the top teams, the league was extremely balanced, so that the lead over Schwarz-Weiß Essen was only three points; the Essenes for their part descended from bottom of the table despite a goal difference of 47:46.

At the beginning of the 1960/61 season there were some personnel changes in the team of the "Zebras", including the young players Dieter Danzberg , Friedhelm Vos and Manfred Müller moved up to the league team. The start of the new season was mediocre and the Meidericher appeared again in danger of relegation, but on November 13, 1960 the previous leaders 1. FC Köln were beaten 2-1. The day after this success, Rösch was involved in a serious traffic accident, which resulted in a broken rib and a concussion. The junior coach Wilhelm Schmidt took over his duties for the time being before Rösch was able to go back to work after a few weeks. The sporting situation remained tense throughout the season and it was only on the last match day that the class was finally secured with a 3-0 win against Borussia Dortmund . In the summer of 1961, the club hired a new coach, Willi Multhaup , which ended Rösch's activity after almost two years. Under his leadership, the then 19-year-old later vice world champion Werner Krämer had developed into a regular player in the course of the 1959/60 season. In the following year, Hartmut Heidemann , another future national player, made it into Rösch's team.
