Else Schwenk-Anger , née Anger (* 1936 in Alpirsbach ) is a German children's book author , publisher and holder of the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon. She is also the founder and chairwoman of the “Kinder-Reigen eV” association, which is committed to helping orphans in Romania .

Life

Else Anger grew up with five siblings in Alpirsbach. After completing a commercial apprenticeship , she worked, among other things, in her parents' fruit and vegetable business. In 1964 she married Werner Schwenk, building contractor and later mayor of Ehlenbogen near Alpirsbach, with whom she raised three children.

In addition to the commercial work for her husband's construction business, she founded and ran three arts and crafts shops in Alpirsbach, Lossburg and Dornstetten as well as a pottery in Ehlenbogen between 1970 and 1990 .

Several publishers rejected the publication of the picture books "Tao" and "Eulalia", which were originally made for their own children . In 1980 Else Schwenk-Anger had the picture book “Eulalia” printed and exhibited it at the Frankfurt Book Fair , which received 5,000 bookings in advance. She founded the "ESA-Verlag", in which, in addition to "Eulalia", other of her picture books appeared in several editions: 1981 "A Wonderful Night", 1982 "Tao, the Little Raven" (published in eleven editions), 1983 "Ulla: Band I and Volume II ”, 1984“ Just a Little Ant ”, 1985“ Vom Bäumlein ”, 1986“ Stolperspinnlein ”, 1987“ Igelkinder ”, 1989“ Lilli ”, 1990“ Felix und seine Hut ”, 1992“ Das Goldstück ”. Her books and texts are still used in many performances in kindergartens and schools as well as at sermons and parish festivals.

Since ESA-Verlag had meanwhile completely taken advantage of her and her husband, they gave up two of the arts and crafts shops and the construction business at the end of the 1980s.

In 1990 she founded the toy store “Kinder-Reigen eV” in Alpirsbach, the proceeds of which were intended to benefit orphans . When in 1991 the pictures of inhumane conditions in Romanian orphanages went around the world, Else Schwenk-Anger drove with the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Würzburg to the orphanage in Lipova / Romania to help financially. Since then, aid supplies have been going there for many years. In 1992 she founded the aid project "Hora Copiilor" in Romania in order to be able to purchase land there for her aid project Kinder-Reigen eV. With the donations collected through Kinder-Reigen eV, she bought and renovated family houses in the city of Lipova, where the orphanage children were taken care of by foster parents . She also founded a special school , a doctor and dental practice and a house for children with AIDS .

In the years that followed, Kinder-Reigen eV founded further facilities in Lipova: a house for young people (assisted living), an apprentice workshop and a production facility , a retirement home and a therapy center for disabled children and young people. The former orphanage Lipova was closed on January 1st, 1999. Over 100 children from this orphanage found a home in the Kinder-Reigen family houses. The founder Else Schwenk-Anger is still the first chairman of the overall project “Kinder-Reigen eV / Hora Copiilor” and works there on a voluntary basis . The nationwide known association Kinder-Reigen eV is supported from many sides with events.

In 1995, Else Schwenk-Anger was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit for her voluntary work . A year later she was made an honorary citizen of the city of Lipova / Romania. On February 19, 2016, she was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

She is a winner of the 2010 non-commercial biography competition “Was für ein Leben”. a. from the German Historical Museum in Berlin . The prize for the winner was the 45-minute documentary film adaptation of her life story.

She published her autobiography “From my life - must be!” In 2014. She processed the life story of her work for the Romanian orphans in the socially critical music theater piece “Apovilya”, which premiered in December 2015.
