Emanuel Couto (born August 6, 1973 in Guarda ) is a former Portuguese tennis player.

Career

Along with Nuno Marques , João Cunha e Silva and Bernardo Mota, Couto is part of the so-called “golden generation” of Portuguese tennis. The only tournament victory of his career he achieved in 1996 at the ATP tournament in Porto in doubles with Bernardo Mota. At Grand Slam tournaments he reached the second round in 1997 at Wimbledon and Roland Garros .

He took part in the Olympic Games in Barcelona and Atlanta . Both times he competed with Bernardo Mota in the doubles competition, but each time he was eliminated in the opening round without winning a set.

Couto played a total of 20 games for the Portuguese Davis Cup team between 1994 and 2003 . Both his individual balance with 11:10 and his double balance with 13: 5 are positive. With 13 double victories, Couto is the most successful double player in his country's Davis Cup history.
