Emina Sandal Jahović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Емина Јаховић ; born January 15, 1982 in Novi Pazar , Yugoslavia ) is a pop singer from the former Yugoslavia with Serbian and Turkish citizenship. In Turkey she is known under the stage name Emina Türkcan . Her brother is the former basketball player and NBA professional Mirsad Türkcan .

Life

Emina Jahović comes from a Bosnian Serb family. In her childhood she attended the Conservatory in Novi Pazar , where she learned to play the guitar . She also danced in a folklore group when she was young . She broke off a four-year management course at the University of Braća Karić in favor of her music career.

Her musical solo career began in 1999 when she won the Montenegrin youth music festival Zlatna staza. With the piece U, la-la (German: Uh, la la ) composed by Dino Merlin from her debut album Tačka ( Punkt ), she achieved a hit in 2002 in the Western Balkans , especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina . In 2003 she came third with the song Uzalud se budim at the Sunčane Skale Festival in Herceg Novi . In 2005 her second music album, Radije ranije ( Better rather ), was released. In 2006 she contributed the voice to the flamingosi track La gitana ( The Gypsy ). The accompanying video won the 2007 Sunčane Skale award for the best music video.

Jahović's personal life has been widely discussed in the tabloids. She was said to have had relationships with the businessmen Serdar Bilgili and Miroslav Mišković . After a three-year relationship, she married her partner, the Turkish singer Mustafa Sandal on January 13, 2008 , with whom she has two sons. In 2010 she took part in the selection of the Serbian representative for the Eurovision Song Contest and came second. In the same year she played (as Emina Sandal ) the role of Lale Ilgaz in an episode of the telenovela Lale Devri .

In 2018, she announced the separation from her husband.
