The lake Emma-Nord , also called Waldsee , is a quarry pond between Großkrotzenburg in the Main-Kinzig district and Kahl am Main in the district of Aschaffenburg . It was built as an open-cast lignite mine at the beginning of the 20th century . The state border between Hesse and Bavaria runs through the lake .

The lake Emma-Nord lies on the right bank of the Main , southeast of Großkrotzenburg and west of Kahl am Main. The approximately six hectare lake belongs to the Kahler Seenplatte . The greater part, about five hectares of the water area, is in Hessian territory. Bundesstraße 8 runs in the northeast of the lake . In 1925, after the First World War, the Emma-Nord mine was built to mine lignite . Today the Kahler Waldseebad is located in the northeastern part of Bavaria . The state road 3309 separates the lakes Emma-Nord and Emma-Süd .
