The Hörsteiner See is a lake near Alzenau in the district of Aschaffenburg and, with a water surface of 59 hectares, the largest lake in Lower Franconia . It is a quarry pond and arose from a gravel pit .

The Hörsteiner See is located in the Unterwald between Karlstein am Main and Alzenau in the district of Hörstein . It is the largest lake in the Kahler Seenplatte and one of the Vorspessart lakes . A neighboring lake borders directly on it. On the eastern bank runs Federal Highway 45 and behind it lies an area of the nature reserve Alzenauer sands . To the west is the Großwelzheimer bathing lake behind the railway line . The Hörsteiner See is completely fenced. The Alzenau Süd industrial park is located south of the Hörsteiner See . The lake is under landscape protection .
