Emma Ryott
Emma Ryott (born 1985) is a British stage and costume designer who mostly costumes for opera and ballet designs.
life and work
Ryott studied set and costume design at Nottingham Trent University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Designs. She was a costume assistant for the English National Ballet and also worked for the London Royal Ballet . As head of costume production at the Royal Shakespeare Company , she also designed sets and costume designs for theater productions. Ryott was hired by the Bregenz Festival , worked at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the English National Opera in London, the Göteborgsoperan as well as the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff and the Opera North in Leeds. Other places of activity are the Theater an der Wien , the Semperoper in Dresden and the Deutsche Oper Berlin .
Ryott also enjoys working in ballet productions . She has been working together with director and choreographer Christian Spuck for many years since 2003 . She designed the equipment for Spuck's Stuttgart action ballet Lulu. Eine Monstretragödie (2003), ..., la peau blanche, ..., (2005), Der Sandmann (2006), Sleepers Chamber (2007) and finally Das Fräulein von S. based on ETA Hoffmann's story Das Fräulein von Scuderi (2012 ). The main roles in this production were taken on by the dancer Marcia Haydée and the actress Mireille Mossé .
The artist also worked with Spuck on the Royal Ballet of Flanders ( The Return of Ulysses , 2006), at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart ( Don Q. with Eric Gauthier and Egon Madsen , 2007, and Poppea // Poppea , 2010), at the Kungliga Balletten in Stockholm ( Le Tableau perdu , 2007), at the Aalto Ballet in Essen ( Leonce and Lena , 2008), at the Nasjonal Ballets Oslo ( Woyzeck , 2011) and at the Ballet Zurich ( Romeo and Juliet , 2012). In addition, she accompanied Spuck for opera productions to Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden and Berlin.
In 2006 she took on the costume design for Tom Stoppard's play Rock 'n' Roll at the Royal Court Theater in London, a production that was eventually shown on Broadway in New York. Further opera engagements took Ryott to Gothenburg ( Manon Lescaut , 2001/02, Sunset Boulevard , 2010), to the Opera North in Leeds ( One Touch of Venus , 2004), to the Grande Park Opera in Leicestershire ( Il barbiere di Siviglia , 2006) , after Cardiff ( Aida , 2008) and Kazan ( Les pêcheurs de perles , 2013). In the 2015/16 season she will design the costumes for the European premiere of John Harbison's opera version of the Great Gatsby at the Dresden Semperoper , directed by Keith Warner .
