Emma Schlangenhausen (born March 9, 1882 in Hall in Tirol ; † March 11, 1947 in Großgmain ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

Life

Emma Schlangenhausen spent her childhood in Straßgang near Graz . She first studied at the Styrian State Academy in Graz and at the Art School for Women and Girls in Vienna, then from 1900 to 1905 at the Vienna School of Applied Arts with Alfred Roller and Koloman Moser . Together with her friend Helene von Taussig , she studied from 1909 to 1914 in Paris at the Académie Ranson with Maurice Denis . After the outbreak of World War I , they continued to study in Switzerland with Cuno Amiet .

At the World's Fair St. Louis 1904 she was awarded a silver medal. In 1908 and 1920 she took part in art shows in Vienna.

In 1932 and 1933 she created a cycle of frescoes in the Salzburg Franciscan monastery . After the annexation of Austria , the monastery was taken over by the Gestapo and the frescoes were destroyed.

Emma Schlangenhausen was a member of the Association of Fine Artists and Craftsmen “Wiener Frauenkunst” and the group “ Wassermann ”, for which she designed a poster in 1919.
