Emmanuel Hanisch

Emmanuel Hanisch MHM (born January 4, 1882 in Altlomnitz , Habelschwerdt district , province of Silesia ; † February 28, 1940 ) was a German Catholic bishop.

Life

On July 4, 1908, he was appointed to the Mission Society of St. Joseph of Mill Hill for priests ordained. On October 28, 1930 he was by Pope Pius XI. appointed Apostolic Prefect of Umtata in South Africa . On April 13, 1937, the same Pope elevated Umtata to the Apostolic Vicariate and Hanisch to the Titular Bishop of Gor . The consecration took place on June 29, 1937 by the Apostolic Delegate of South Africa, Archbishop Bernard Gijlswijk OP with the assistance of Adalbero Fleischer CMM , Vicar Apostolic of Mariannhill and Herman Joseph Meysing , Vicar Apostolic of Kimberley .
