The Emsländische Volksbank eG emerged from the Emsländische Bauernbank eG founded in 1922 and the Volksbank Meppen eG founded in 1899. After the bank was renamed Emsländische Volksbank eG in 1970, it merged with Spardaka Haren eG in 1975. In further mergers, between 2000 and 2004, today's Emsländische Volksbank eG was created. The bank merged with Raiffeisenkasse Wesuwe eG, Raiffeisenkasse Twist eG, Volksbank Dörpen eG and Aschendorfer Bank eG.

Emsländische Volksbank eG has been initiating and realizing an art exhibition every year since 1995 under the title “A bank full of art”. Well-known artists exhibit their works in the main office of the bank. Feodor Szerbakow , Ton Schulten , Otmar Alt , Gigi Banini and Dagmar Glemme ( Path of Stones ) have already exhibited in Meppen, among others . In 2015 the exhibition by the artist Wulf Reinshagen was entitled Horizons.

Heylscher Saal

During the demolition work in the course of the new building of the Emsländische Volksbank eG at the end of the seventies, the Heylschen Hall was found, the stucco ceiling of which remained hidden for years due to a false ceiling. The Heyl house was built in 1809 for the ducal Arenberg Chamber Councilor Anton Heyl, the prefect of the local district appointed by the French occupying power at the time. On the initiative of several citizens, the Office for Monument Preservation in Osnabrück managed to preserve this room. The Heylsche Saal is now embedded in the Emsländische Volksbank eG building and is a tourist attraction in the city of Meppen .
