The 1998/99 season was the third edition of the English national ice hockey league , the English League . This year the league was divided into a Premier Division and a Division I , with the Premier League representing the 3rd division of British ice hockey after the Ice Hockey Superleague and the British National League and the National League Division I the fourth level . Only English teams took part in it.

Mode and participants

The teams played in regional groups, a North Conference and a South Conference . In a single round everyone played against everyone. The first four of each group then played against each other for two places for the final round. There, the overall winner was determined in play-offs with two legs.

Main round

The teams Grimsby Buffalos , Flintshire Freeze (from Queensferry / Deeside) and Nottingham Lions joined the league, while the Blackburn Hawks and the Solihull Barons left the league for the Premier Division . In addition, the Telford Tigers moved from the North to the South Conference.

Main round

Four teams, the Chelmsford Chieftains , Whightlink Raiders , Swinon Wildcats and Romford Raiders left the league, while the Welsh Cardiff Devils joined. In addition, the Telford Tigers moved from the North Conference to the South Conference.
