Enock Koech (born April 4, 1981 ) is a Kenyan middle and long distance runner .

Life

Koech belongs to the Nandi ethnic group and comes from Kericho in the Rift Valley Province . He attended Lelmokwo School until 1999, when he started running. In 2000 he was signed by Jos Hermens ' company Global Sports Communications and began training with Patrick Sang .

After he was successful in various cross-country races, he won the national championship in this discipline on the short distance of 4 km at the beginning of 2001, relegating the two first-placed winners of the cross-country world championships last year, John Kemboi Kibowen and Sammy Kipketer , to their places. At the cross-country world championships in Ostend he then won the same distance over Kenenisa Bekele , who won this competition five times in a row in the following years.

He then had a successful track season and was the eighth fastest 1,500 meter runner of the year. The following year he had to cancel his start at the Cross Country World Championship at short notice due to malaria . After that he was no longer able to build on his previous achievements.
