Enrico Francesco Pio Canfari (* 16th June 1877 in Genoa , † 22. October 1915 at the Monte San Michele , Isonzo ) was an Italian football player and - functionary .

life and career

Enrico Canfari was born in Genoa on June 16, 1877 . His father later owned a bicycle shop in Turin . In 1897 Canfari and his younger brother Eugenio belonged to the group of 13 students from the Turin Massimo d'Azeglio high school that founded the Juventus Turin football club on November 1, 1897 . In 1898 he replaced his brother as president of the club and held the office until 1901.

With Juve Enrico Canfari took part in the Italian football championships from 1900 to 1903 . In 1903 they only had to admit defeat to the then series champion CFC Genoa in the final .

Despite his close connection to the Turin club, Enrico Canfari ran for AC Milan from 1903 , with whom he was eliminated from the tournament for the Italian championship in 1904 in the second elimination round against Juventus.

After his football career, Canfari studied chemistry and deepened his knowledge of the football rules on numerous trips to England .

Enrico Canfari fell in World War I , during the Third Battle of the Isonzo , in which he participated as a volunteer with the rank of captain . He died on October 22, 1915 at the age of 38 on Monte San Michele in the Isonzo Valley .
