The Entertainment Software Association ( ESA ) is an American organization that was founded as the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA) in 1994 and renamed in 2003. The organization is based in Washington, DC

The ESA deals, among other things, with the management of copyrights as well as market analyzes and government relations of manufacturers of game software for consoles, home computers and the Internet. It also organizes the E3 computer trade fair .

As part of its public relations work, ESA lists economic and social facts about video games on its website. She denies a connection between violence in computer games and in reality. However, there are currently contradicting theses on the subject. Society also addresses the impact of video games on everyday life in several articles on its website. She also raises money for various youth projects that are not related to video games.

Among other things, ESA takes care to curb black copies , which is why the abandonware website Abandonia does not offer any games from ESA members for download. In several legal proceedings and events, ESA also fought against restrictions on the sale of video games.
